My Favorite Weekend…how it all began…

In less than a month one of my favorite charity weekends will be here, the 3rd Annual Celebrity Softball Game.  This game actually started 3 years ago with client, and current Pittsburgh Steeler, Derrick Williams and the Derrick Williams Foundation.

I met Derrick when he was a rookie here in Detroit and we began to work together on his community efforts, we wanted to do a big event that could raise funds to cover his effort throughout the entire NFL Season, which we did accomplish.  Within the first two years of hosting this game (in 2011 Derrick partnered with Pistons, Charlie Villanueva) we were able to feed healthy meals from Subway to over 500 Detroit Public School students, hosted essay contests and took multiple classrooms to Detroit Lions games.  Now that Derrick is with the Steelers, his friends that are still here in Detroit are carrying on the tradition. I have to say that I’m so proud of Derrick and all the awesome things he’s done over the past 3 years, he’s one of my best friends and I can’t wait to see him on the field in the black and yellow!!

This year, Nate Burleson and Stephen Tulloch will be hosting the annual event which will be held in Dearborn, Michigan at Kingboring Field (corner of Michigan Ave and Evergreen).  Players scheduled to attend include Detroit Lions, Cliff Avril, Louis Delmas, Justin Durant, Alphonso Smith, Stephen Logan, Corey Williams along with other players on the team, Austin Pettis of the St. Louis Rams, Brandyn Thompson of the Redskins, Jalil Brown of the Kansas City Chiefs, Jimmy King of the infamous “Fab 5” along with former Detroit Lion favorites, Herman Moore and Lomas Brown! More players will be announced as the event nears.

Over the years it seems like this event continues to grow larger and larger.  This year we’ve teamed up with HYPE Athletics to give back to their organization along with some awesome sponsors including Lucido Fine Jewelry, Quicken Loans, Fathead, Powerade, Subway and more!

While at the game you’ll have more to do than just watch softball, this is a FAMILY event! There’s a “Fun Zone” that will have multiple activities for the kids with moonwalks, games, face painting, music and more!

Gates to this event will open at 1pm and the Home Run Derby starts at 2!

See you at the ballpark!!
